Sebastian 30th at Junior Europeans
Rohan and Ivan in Lausanne
Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy gymnast Rohan Sebastian earned a record finish for Ireland at the Junior European Championships, held May 9 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Sebastian, who holds dual U.S.-Irish citizenship, made his competition debut for Ireland in Lausanne and finished 30th all-around. The competition featured gymnasts from 37 countries, including traditional gymnastics powerhouses Russia, Ukraine, Romania and Germany.

The Irish junior team competed in the first of three subdivisions. After two subdivisions, Sebastian was in first place on floor exercise and seventh all-around. His 30th place is the highest finish in history for an Irish gymnast at a junior or senior European Championships.

Sebastian, 17, is coached at BCGA by Ivan Ivankov, the two-time World (1994, 1997) and European (1994, 1996) all-around champion from Belarus.

The competition was held at the same arena in Lausanne where Ivankov won his second world all-around title.
