| Girls' Head Coach
Since joining BCGA in 2000, Olympian Christian Ivanov has coached the girls' teams to eight state championships: Level 4 (2003, 2004, 2005, 2007), Level 5 (2005 and 2006), Level 6 (2006 and 2007).
Ivanov coached compulsories from 2000 to 2007. He is now the head coach for the girls' optional team (Levels 7-10) and a supervising coach for the compulsory team (Levels 4-6).
"I'm a big believer that in the gym, kids need to practice basic concepts that will help them in life, including responsibility, discipline, politeness and friendship," he says. "I am a strict coach, but believe in always being respectful, positive and encouraging with each child."
Ivanov began gymnastics at age 7 in his native Sofia, Bulgaria. He was a member of the Bulgarian team at four European Championships (1994, 1996, 1998, 2000), three World Championships (1999, 2001, 2003) and the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. He was a high bar finalist at the 2000 World Cup Final.
In 2006, Ivanov graduated with high distinction from the University of Oklahoma, earning a degree in International Business with a minor in Russian.
Ivanov is president of the gymnastics leotard and apparel company GymDivas. He is also a contributing writer to International Gymnast Magazine.
