Coral Borda Otte
Women's Program Optional Coach
Coral Borda arrived at BCGA in 2007 to coach the Compulsory and Optional Girls’ Teams (level 4 – 10), and shortly after became a part of the Optional Team coaching staff. She currently coaches the girls' Optional Team levels 6 to 10 and helps with the management and coaching of the compulsory teams.
Borda, a Brazilian Native, started gymnastics at 5 years old in Rio de Janeiro and she was immediately delighted by the sport joining a competitive team 3 months later. She became an Elite gymnast in 1996, at 11 years old and a year later she made the Brazilian National Team for the first time to represent her country in the Youth South American Championships, where she placed 2nd AA and helped the Brazilian Team win the gold. Borda represented Brazil internationally in the following 6 years. She was the 2000 Pan American Interclubs All-Around Champion and the 1999 Brazilian Junior AA Champion. Borda collected over 10 Brazilian National Championship medals (1995-2002) as well as numerous State Championships wins throughout her career. One of Borda’s most significant achievements was to be part of the 11th Place Team at the World Gymnastics Championships in Ghent, Belgium in 2001.
A series of injuries set Borda aside from training for over a year and she enrolled in college and started coaching gymnastics classes and began helping with the Brazilian Junior National Team practices. In 2003, Borda’s gymnastics elite career came to an end, and she decided to accept a full gymnastics scholarship to the University of Oklahoma. Borda competed several times in the all-around but beam was the event where she excelled the most and was solid contributor for the Sooners. Her late transfer to OU limited Borda to only two years as a gymnast there. As a fifth year senior at OU she worked as the OU Women’s Gymnastics Team Manager.
Soon after graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Human Relations Borda began her coaching career at Bart Conner Gymnastics. She has coached many state champions, regional and national qualifiers and has guided her gymnasts to earn full college scholarships. In 2015 Borda married boyfriend Alex R Otte and they had thier first child together in February of 2016, daughter Devon Louise.
